Helping families is an inherent part of what makes WLG International Founder and CEO Hubert Humphrey and his wife, Norma, who they are. Time and again, they have demonstrated the desire to help families—through their work in various companies and through The WLG International Foundation. The Foundation was created to extend the Humphreys’ vision of helping families, and has quickly made a lasting impression on many. The WLG International Foundation is a vital part of the company and shows its commitment to give back to communities across the country. The Foundation has the ability to grow into a major contributor to worthwhile local and national charities and is able to respond quickly to natural disasters with much-needed relief and financial support. The Gulf Coast, in particular New Orleans, is special for Hubert Humphrey, having attended many meetings there in years past. When Hurricane Katrina devastated the region, the Humphreys, like so many others, were moved to help. But their idea of helping extended beyond what they could do personally. This was a moment that begged for more than individual help; this was the time to bring together the efforts of many. Fortunately, The WLG International Foundation was there to make a major contribution. The Foundation is now focused on My House, a one-of-a-kind haven for abused, neglected and abandoned children who have nowhere else to go. “It’s incredible what people do to children,” says Donna Carson, the founder and director of My House, who has devoted her life to this great cause. “It is even more incredible how slow the system is to protect the children. I waited for years to see what was going to be done, but nothing ever happened. Help for Those in Need The immediate need is a new facility for My House, which faces many challenges in its dilapidated building on a busy downtown Atlanta street. And even though the facility can only house 11 children at a time, Donna and her crew of tireless staff and volunteers have already saved the lives of more than 100 babies. “One person can make a difference,” Norma says. “Sometimes people don’t realize that, but just think about how many ‘ones’ we have out there who can make a difference.” The WLG International Foundation will continue to support My House as well as other deserving organizations that focus on the needs of children and families nationwide. “We want to be good stewards and help a lot of people,” Hubert says. “The more we work hard and are successful in our business, the more good things we’re going to be able to do for others.” |
